Community Health

Our main focus is not to provide health care, but to facilitate communities in obtaining well staffed Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) from the government. We don't want to duplicate a service which already exists, so we are working to raise awareness of health issues and motivating people to seek out treatment from their PHCs. The SHGs are an excellent forum for raising health issues and enable us to reach a large number of families through our Peer Educators. They also provide strong groups who can campaign for the services they are entitled to.

HIV/Aids/STI

We have an education and awareness programme focusing on prevention, sexual health and reducing associated stigma conducted through the SHGs, Peer Educators, schools and mass awareness programmes, including street theatre and processions. We are also working to diagnose and refer HIV +ve cases for treatment, and offer care, counselling and advice. We also hope, in future, to be able to provide social and economical aid to Aids patients who are no longer able to work.

TB

We are working to control the spread of TB in two ways. The first is through education and secondly by early detection and treatment.
Our education programme stresses the importance early detection and completion of treatment to guarantee cure and prevent multi-drug resistance. We highlight how it is contracted and how to spot the symptoms. We educate our SHGs and Peer Educators, hold mass awareness programmes, like street theatre and distribute posters and pamphlets.
Our Village Health Workers (VHWs) take sputum samples for diagnosis, register positive cases with PHCs and follow up cases to ensure treatment is followed.
