Vasandham was started in 1987 to offer basic medic facilities
to the people of the remote Varusanadu Valley area.
The main problems then were tuberculosis and anaemia
and as there were no government facilities in the area
people were travelling around 30 Km to seek medical
care from a nearby NGO. Many of the hamlets in the area
were not serviced by buses due to there being no roads.
We now operate four
different programmes in 120 hamlets, reaching a total
population of around 60,000. The Women's Development
Programme is designed to strengthen the social standing
of women through knowledge, economic independence and
respect, and so enhance living standards for society
as a whole. Panchayat Raj Institutions development select
the potential candidates and giving more training on
Panchayat Raj systems and train more to existing local
bodies. Our Community Health Programme aims to improve
health standards through awareness and facilitate communities
in obtaining Primary Healthcare Centres. The main focus
of the Ecology Programme is to promote environmentally
sustainable agricultural practices through training
and assistance.
